Before we begin however, we should first ask the question:

Are You Qualified to be a Leader in the Body of Christ?

“Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.” –  James 3:1

Starting a ministry is a daunting task and NOT for the faint of heart. Before starting a Church, every Christian leader should be a man or woman above reproach as is described in the New Testament Book of 1st Timothy Chapter 3:1-7 & 11 which states the following,

“Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap. In the same way, the women  are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.” – The Apostle Paul to his spiritual son Timothy while awaiting execution by the Roman Emperor Nero.

Here at The Empowerment Center, we believe that its imperative for every person looking to start their own Church to be able to stand up to the standards set forth in 1st Timothy 3 regarding the qualifications of being an Overseer. Currently, less than five percent of Pastor applicants here at could tell us which offering Jesus represented on the cross based on the five offerings described in Leviticus! (hint, he represented the sin offering Romans 8:3 and 2 Corinthians 5:21). In fact, 65% of Pastor applicants are working not on their second marriage when they apply but rather their 3rd, 4th and 5th marriage! Is it any wonder why we have a huge divorce rate among Christian households?! What this nation doesn’t need is more folks calling themselves a Pastor but they have no idea what they’re talking about.

This is WHY it is so imperative to make sure that folks have a foundational understanding of the scriptures and that they are men and women above reproach before every thinking of starting up a new Church.

In our next section, we’re going to be discussing how to lawfully establish a Church via our custom Church Establishment Affidavit and WHY this affidavit is the key to freeing your Church to be under the better tax exemption law of 26 U.S.C 508(c)(1)(a) instead of incorporating it under 501c3.
